What else you should know before making the purchase?
When you purchase an air conditioner, then its not just the product cost that you would need to pay. Most of the times you have to pay additional money for installation, electric devices, and accessories depending on situation and your choice.
Here are some of the expenses that you may need to make at the time of installation.
- SPN/MCB/Circuit Breaker: If you don’t have it already installed, then you would need to purchase it at the time of installation.
- Electric Wire: Extra electric wires would be needed for connecting outer unit with inner unit. In some cases, even the power cable that is to be connected to MCB or stabilizer from the inner unit of AC in the room is also not provided.
- Drain pipe: Drain pipe included with AC is only a meter long and you would need to purchase extra pipe at your expense. Its not very expensive but still you have to pay for it.
- Voltage Stabilizer: Many modern air conditioners operate without a stabilizer but people still like to connect one. In this case, you will have to pay extra for it.
- Connecting Copper Pipe: Almost all air conditioner companies with a few exceptions provide a 3 meter copper pipe free with their AC. If the distance between the inner unit and outer unit of AC is more than 3 meters, then you would need to purchase the extra pipe required.
- AC Bracket/Stand: Some people prefer installing outer unit of AC on iron brackets fixed on outer walls. This has advantage of lower vibrations and less noise. But some people would simply place it on floor out side the room. If you go for bracket installation, you may have to pay ₹250 to ₹800 extra for the brackets.
- Installation cost: No company in India offers free installation of AC. You have to pay ₹1500 to ₹2000 rupees extra as installation cost.
If you include all of these costs, then you may have a to spend anywhere between ₹2500 to ₹7500 extra at the time of installation.
Some people get very upset at the time of installation of AC as these expenses come to them unexpected. It is therefore very important that you know about these expenses so that you can plan better.
For example, you can pick a location for installation of AC that would make sure that distance between inner and outer unit of AC does not exceed 3 meters. You may also buy a stabilizer in advance, and also pick at better AC that suits your needs.
