There are many different types of water purifier systems available in the market and their installation may depend upon which type you have chosen.
The types of installations that we know so far include…
- Countertop/Wall Mount
- Under the sink &
- Whole house
The thing is that if water in your area is exceptionally polluted, you may need to install an extra filter and water softener in order to save the filters that come in-built in the water purifier you’ve purchased. You don’t need extras if you’ve chosen a best RO water purifier.
The more extras you use along with the main unit, the more complex your installation operation becomes. Therefore, it is good that you go for a water purifier that helps you dispense with extra installations.
Things Needed for It
These are the things you require in order to make your task easy:
- Drill for boring holes
- Inlet and outlet pipes
- Adjustable wrenches
- Hack-saw blade &
- Washers or rubber gaskets to prevent leakage
- RO Pressure Pump, or Pressure Reducing Valve, or nothing, depending on situation
Countertop / Wall Mount Installation
This is in some ways the easiest type of water purifier installation. The most important thing is to make sure where you want to place the countertop unit. This is because if after installing it you find it problematic to practically use it, the experience of uninstalling and re-installing it may bother you a lot.
Of course, some purifiers are so designed that even after installing them, you can move them as much as the length of the inlet pipe would allow you to. But this is not possible for all countertop water purifiers. We may take, for instance, the state-of-the-art RO systems that are available in the market. Moving them about won’t be as convenient as it is with a simple UF countertop filter.
The second in importance are things like a tap with a removable spray head or a connector. It is this part that the inlet pipe of the water purifier will be connected to.
In order to make connection watertight, please ensure that you properly insert the washers. It is always good to have more washers at hand; because at times it may happen that in spite of using the washers that comes with the package that includes the water purifier, you may see water leaking at the joints. If at all it leaks, you can make use of extra washer to stop it. It is advisable to use good quality washers because they are soft and resilient, not rigid. Rigid gaskets are not as efficient as the rubber.
Under the Sink Installation
This type of installation is good both for heavy purifiers that are used in kitchens or fitted with the pipe of the sink. If you want to channelize pure water in more than one sink, then you may go for whole house system. The thing is that you will have to work with more than one connection which is a little bit time consuming, and also requires some effort. However, if you aren’t averse to be engaged on more complex task, by all means you should go for it.
Please note that this type of installation may be the most difficult one because you have to bend down to bore holes, mounting brackets, fixing the filters, connecting inlet and outlet pipes, etc in a constricted space under the sink. And if you have covered up all spaces under the countertop, then it will become all the more difficult to work there. Also, you have very few options to choose a place of installation for filters.
You will face the same problems when you need to change the filters or do any preparation work that might crop up afterward. You may find it a little bit bothersome because it is the place where you shove away miscellaneous articles related to the cleaning work. So, every time you got to do something with it, you will have to go through the same bother of taking out everything from there and work under it.
Whole House Installation
This you require when you are concerned about the quality of water supply you need in more than one location. You have to fix more supply lines for the purpose. Therein lies the major complexity.
You need to figure out the locations where you want the supply of clean water. Extending pipes to those locations in a way that wouldn’t give it an ugly look, is important. Otherwise, the task of installing the filters follows the same method that is used in other types of installations. All you need to take care of is to ensure that the location where the filters are installed is easy to reach in order to facilitate the task of replacing them when time comes for it.
It is also important that you know where lies concealed pipelines or electrical wiring. If you hurt them while installing water purifying system, it is certainly not something that you can DIY.
